Climate and Weather

KraKow lies in a region of temperate climate. Weather changes are frequent due to the friction of humid air masses arriving from the Atlantic Ocean and dry, continental masses of air incoming from the East. The average annual temperature fluctuates between 6˚C to 10˚C. July is the warmest month and January the coldest one. Western winds, conductive to rain fall, blow during summer, whereas during winter there are predominantly eastern winds, decreasing the amount of precipitation.

Due to recent climate fluctuation you should be ready in September for a sunny, dry and nice summer-type weather, with temperatures well above 20˚C,  though you cannot exclude a probability of cold, rainy and typically autumnal conditions.

Transport

Krakow has a fairly dense public transport system which consists of tramways and bus lines operated by a municipal company MPKand a number of private-owned minibus fleets. Some suburban areas are connected by local commuter trains.

One-way ticket for a municipal bus or a streetcar (tram) is 3.8 PLN (an equivalent of roughly 1.25 USD / 0.90 EUR). You can buy it at newsstands and from ticket machines at downtown stops and in some buses and tram cars. Immediately after boarding you should insert the ticket into the ticket puncher and keep the ticket till you reach your destination. For more information visit: http://www.mpk.krakow.pl/en/

Minibuses run by independent companies do not accept the municipal tickets, the fare to be paid to the driver on boarding.
